Brief Description: DCJS Certified. This course is a Pre-Requisite for any Instructor Courses.

Full Description: This course will give officers the ability to research, prepare and communicate knowledge in the field of law enforcement.  Lessons focus on setting instructional objectives, factors that influence adult learning, communication skills, the instructional process, and methods of evaluating course effectiveness.  Successful students will receive Certification for General Topics:  Police Instructor.    It is recommended that each student have significant experience as a police or peace officer, very good performance evaluations, possess good communication skills and above average moral character. The requirements for instructor certification are pursuant to Part 6023 of Title 9 of the Official Compilation of Codes, Rules and Regulations of the State of New York (NYCRR).   Please be prepared for a very intense 2 weeks of instruction.

Students will be responsible for 2 quizzes and 4 presentations (one-minute, two-minutes, five-minutes and ten-minutes)  A fifty (50) minute presentation with corresponding lesson plan and power point on a law enforcement related subject will be required for successful completion of the IDC course.

Homework will be assigned every night.  Please plan your time accordingly for nightly assignments and weekend preparation for your 50-minute presentation.

Prerequisites: The following are required to attend the class:

1) Each student must be a police or peace officer at the time of certification and have completed the appropriate MPTC Basic Course.

2)They must possess a high school diploma or its equivalent (copy of each student’s transcripts are required).

Resources Required: Students will need a laptop/iPad, thumb drive, and Personal History Forms pre-filled out. Students highest level of Education Transcripts will be due on day one of course.

Reporting Instructions: Please report to the Academy at 0800 to begin class.

Signup Details: Personal History Form must be completed for the first day of instruction.
