Full Description: The course is designed to “bridge” other types of law enforcement instructors into a NYS DCJS General Topics Instructor. This four-day class requires demonstration of good lesson planning and good classroom presentation on a topic other than their original certification topic.

The prerequisite courses that are acceptable for registration for the Instructor Development Conversion course include:

~ One week NY State Commission on Corrections IDC
~ One week Federal Bureau of Investigation IDC
~ Two week D.A.R.E. Officer Training Course
~ Two week NYS Police Firearms Instructor Course
~ Two week NYC Police Department Firearms Instructor Course
~ One week National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Highway Safety Instructor Courses
~ Other courses may be accepted at the discretion of the Commissioner. Prior approval by the Office of Public Safety and sufficient time to process requests are required.

Students who successfully complete the Instructor Development Conversion Course will receive an MPTC Instructor certificate.

Resources Required: Students will need a laptop/iPad, thumb drive, and a Personal History Form that is completed prior to the first day of class. A copy of the student's highest level of education transcripts will be due on day one of the course.

Reporting Instructions: Please report to the Academy at 0800 to begin class.

Signup Details: A portal account is required to register for classes. Registration by phone or fax is not accepted. TRAINING OFFICERS: Authorized officials may register multiple officers from their agency in a class.
