Full Description: This course is designed to provide the student with the skills to be able to safely and effectively conduct physical fitness training. The course consists of classroom lecture and practical application, several workouts are conducted. After completing this training, you will be certified by the MPTC to teach police recruits PT at the Basic Course for Police Officers. The goal of this program is twofold: first, to give the student a solid educational foundation of the essentials to physical fitness and to give the student a lifelong learning philosophy of fitness and wellness.

Prerequisites: As the Training Officer responsible for registering personnel on behalf the employing agency, I affirm all of the following requirements:

1) If the student is a police or peace officer, they must be employed at such time of attendance, or, if they are a civilian, must be authorized to attend such in-service training by their law enforcement employer or a [DCJS] recognized law enforcement partner.

2) In order to be completely certified as a PT instructor, students will need to have completed the Instructor Development Course.

3) All students must pass a medical exam within 30 days of the class start date, then bring their completed medical evaluation form with them on the first day of class. The completed form must be a signed original bearing the physician's office stamp.

Resources Required: Medical evaluation required/ Signed and Stamped Medical Form due before start of class. Must pass a physical agility test at the 70 percentile Cooper Standards.

Reporting Instructions: Please report to the Academy at 0800 to begin class.

Signup Details: A portal account is required to register for classes. Registration by phone or fax is not accepted. TRAINING OFFICERS: Authorized officials may register multiple officers from their agency in a class.
